About Us
Our Story
In 1991, some friends were interested in preserving the history of phosphate mining in Maury County and the town’s colorful past got together. It was their dream to have a museum. One is that future generations could visit and be inspired by the town’s past, the incredible history of the phosphate industry, its impact on Mt. Pleasant and its neighbors. The museum’s goal was to start at the beginning and continue from the Native American villages to the end of the phosphate boom in 1994. That was thirty-three years ago, and we are still here teaching generations about our town’s impact on the world. Mt. Pleasant will forever be in our hearts as The Phosphate Capital of the World 1894 -1994.
