About Us

Our Story

In 1991, Jimmy and Irene Dugger organized a group of retired phosphate workers and volunteers interested in preserving the history of phosphate mining in Maury County and the county’s historical artifacts. It was important to them to teach future generations the value of knowing their history and the incredible history of the phosphate industry. The impact it had on Mt. Pleasant and its neighbors. The museum’s goal to start at the beginning and continue forward with the preservation of history being made from Native American villages to the end of the phosphate boom in 1994. Mt. Pleasant will forever be in our hearts as The Phosphate Capital of the World 1894 -1994.

Our Mission
